IU is a beloved solo artist, songwriter, and actress from South Korea under EDAM Entertainment. As a multi-talented individual, she showcases an extensive discography that includes several chart-topping songs such as ‘Good Day’, ‘Palette’, and ‘Blueming’, along with numerous awards and honors. It was no surprise when UAENA —the name given to IU’s fans— were ecstatic to hear the announcement of her world tour, which began at KSPO Dome in Seoul, South Korea and ended at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, California.
The Los Angeles venue was packed with enthusiastic UAENA who could hardly contain their excitement. As IU took the stage in a stunning red dress and danced with local child performers as a tribute to filming ‘Holssi’ in Los Angeles, the crowd would not settle down. IU also announced that LA UAENA would be referred to as “LAena” for the duration of the concert. With multiple outfit changes, impressive child performers, and captivating background effects, the audience was fully immersed in her performance. IU delivered emotionally stirring renditions of ‘Love Wins All’ and a special arrangement of ‘Strawberry Moon’, which featured prominent guitar and bongo instrumentation.
The highlight of the show was the encore, which featured IU’s charming personality and antics. Despite a strict time limit, she made sure to perform until the very last moment, both to express her gratitude to her fans and to maximize her time with them. It was enjoyable to witness IU engaging with LAENA in choosing the next song to perform. At one point, she allowed LAENA to decide between ‘LILAC’ and ‘Hold My Hand’, with the choice determined by which song received the loudest cheers. Ultimately, IU performed both songs, much to the audience's delight.
IU noted that her mother generously prepared gifts for attendees, which were placed at their seats. While such a kind gesture is not new for those familiar with IU, as her mother has a history of preparing various gifts for fans attending her concerts, it was a first for many overseas UAENA. It must have been nice for fans to experience such a special moment that many had read or seen online. We hope IU will come back to Los Angeles soon and grace us with such classic and elegant performances again!
