Xdinary Heroes brought pure rock chaos to the Hollywood Palladium on August 14, returning to Los Angeles with a set that blurred the lines between a stadium-scale rock show and an intimate fan gathering. The night opened with a striking VCR of the members in black and red suits, instruments in hand, before each silhouette was illuminated in a halo of light, setting the tone for the explosive entrance that followed.
The band kicked off with "Beautiful Life," bathed in red lights, their alternative-inspired outfits amplifying the energy. Guitarist JUNHAN’s solo and the crowd’s unified singing of the final “you” lyric made the first track feel like an anthem. They transitioned seamlessly into "XYMPHONY," with keyboardist JUNGSU’s intricate piano intro giving way to synthesist and keyboardist O.DE’s rap and the band’s thunderous rock sound. By the time guitarist GAON had the audience raising their hands during "Bad Chemical," it was clear Xdinary Heroes and their fans, named Villains, were ready for an energetic night ahead.
The early set leaned on fan-favorites like "LOVE and FEAR,” with bassist JOOYEON’s standout bass riff and "Fight Me," where JUNGSU’s commanding vocals and JOOYEON’s high notes carried over drummer GUNIL’s powerful rhythm. Each track built momentum, and when the first ment break came, the members’ words underscored the significance of being back in Los Angeles.
GUNIL was the first to speak, asking Villains how they were doing before declaring, “Xdinary Heroes is finally back in LA!” His words were met with deafening cheers. GAON grinned as he confessed, “I missed you guys,” and the sincerity in his voice had the crowd roaring back. JUNGSU leaned into the excitement, promising, “I think today will be the craziest day, and we want to fill this stage with our own Xdinary Heroes style.” JUNHAN, usually more reserved, admitted that above all else, “I was excited to perform the tracks from Beautiful Mind tonight.” JOOYEON kept the energy high, shouting, “We just finished warming up, are you ready??” Finally, O.DE smiled, soaking in the cheers and adding, “Your guys’ energy, I can feel how excited you are for the next stage.”
The middle of the set kept the room pulsing. "FEELING NICE" featured O.DE’s megaphone and JOOYEON’s piercing siren-like vocals, while "George the Lobster" turned into a clapping, high-energy jam session with O.DE bouncing across the stage, JUNGSU hitting a piercing high note, and JUNHAN shredding through a solo. GUNIL’s drum solo had him pointing into the crowd, teasing fans with a call-and-response of “hey!” that grew louder with each round.
Later, "AGAIN?AGAIN!" brought a playful pop-rock vibe, with JOOYEON roaming the edges of the stage to make eye contact with fans. Blue lights set the mood for "Walking to the Moon," where GAON strummed his guitar while fans swayed their light sticks in the air. At one point, GAON gave a playful thumbs-up behind JUNGSU as he belted the chorus. "PLUTO" became a highlight, with the band encouraging a full-venue singalong. JUNGSU asked, “Villains, can we sing Pluto one more time?” and GUNIL marveled, “I heard your voices and it’s beautiful. I was so surprised you sang the Korean lyrics so well.”
Xdinary Heroes masterfully balanced tenderness and ferocity. "Good Enough" slowed the pace, spotlighting JUNGSU and JOOYEON’s piercing harmonies. But the mood shifted again with "Save Me," which GUNIL explained was written to give strength to listeners and warmth in their hearts during hard times. GAON followed, half-joking, “I almost cried, but I’m okay,” making the crowd laugh before the mood lifted again. While his bandmate went off stage, O.DE teased that he was going to pretend to be JOOYEON and reminded everyone, “I always say we’ll break through the venue ceiling with our screaming.” JUNGSU joined in, asking, “You guys can break the ceiling, right?” before JOOYEON came back onto the stage to lead the audience in five escalating levels of screams. The energy quickly reignited with "No Matter," "Moneyball," and the ferocious "Break the Brake." "Fire (My Sweet Misery)" turned the venue into a sea of headbanging Villains under fiery visuals, bringing the main set to a close.
After chants of “Xdinary Heroes” filled the room, the band returned sporting tour merch shirts for a fiery encore. Songs like "Strawberry Cake," "Freakin’ Bad," and "Money in My Mind" kept fans jumping until the finale "iNSTEAD!" roared to life, ending the night on a high-octane, metal note.
The closing ments made the night unforgettable. JUNGSU grew emotional, saying, “Every time I’m in LA I make great memories. I want to better my life because of you guys… Today was the best day of my life, and I’ll never forget this moment and all of you.” JUNHAN looked out at the packed venue in awe at the size of the crowd and shared, “We prepared really hard for this tour, and it was all worth it…The presence of happiness is just hitting my heart. Thank you for letting us make such precious memories.”GUNIL reflected on how much he had looked forward to returning. “Because we were here last year, I really wanted to come back to LA…I was praying that everyone who came tonight could forget about anything bad happening in their lives and just enjoy. Stay safe, stay healthy, stay cute, and we love you guys.”
GAON shared his admiration for LA’s music legacy. “I fell in love with LA, the city of Guns N’ Roses and so many bands I admire—I’m so jealous! I hope one day we can become a legend too.” JOOYEON echoed the sentiment, saying, “It’s been almost a year since we came to LA, but as expected, you guys exceeded my expectations. If you wait a little bit, we’ll prepare amazing music and come back to you. Because I love metal and rock, I listen to a lot of bands from here too, so I had a lot of expectations for LA. Thank you so much, I love you guys.” O.DE lightened the mood with humor. “Yesterday me and JUNGSU went to Disneyland. It was awesome, but tonight you guys are 100% more awesome. Your energy and your power of love always make me move forward. Love you, thank you!”
Xdinary Heroes’ show was a testament to the versatility of their self-produced discography, moving effortlessly from tender rock ballads to hard-hitting metal anthems without ever losing momentum. Each member showcased their multi-instrumental talent and seized the spotlight with commanding solos, proving their power both as individual musicians and as a cohesive band. It was a display of pure artistry that left fans certain Xdinary Heroes are only continuing to grow and we are all eager to welcome them back to Los Angeles.
